in this project we were given the task of redesigning a poster for Poetry Africa. The Poetry Africa international poetry festival takes place in Durban in early October, predominantly featuring poets from South Africa and elsewhere on the African continent. The seven-day programme includes performances, music, book-launches, the Durban SlamJam, seminars, workshops, open mic sessions, and school programs. We also need to incorporate the mask that was used in the previous posters but we can make it more modern by changing the mask all together or not using it as long as we can back it up why we decided to do this.

iJusi # 27 CD items
iJusi Process Work
This was my entire process for the LP cover and the booklet, which took quiet a lot of effort in doing but i was proud of my end result because it looked real.
iJusi #27 campaign
This project was for iJusi #27 magazine and it was very challenging because we had to do design work that was not in our comfort zone. We had to create an LP cover, we could either rework on an existing LP like the Beetles or create our own. I decided to use a South African band called the Flames. Growing up as a young South African Indian boy I was hit with tons of stereotypes among the Indian community and one that reality frustrated me was when people had this perception that all Indian people listen to Bollywood music or classical Indian 1 interpretation music which is completely not true at all. So with in this project that exactly what I wanted to show that all Indian people are diverse in terms of what music we listen to. My design was using a Robertson Spice Bottle and adding all the ingredients that would go inside the bottle of psychedelic rock such as drugs, alcohol, sex and getting aids.
Durban Illustrations
My illustrations of durban were based on the concept of how big rugby players go to local indian takeaways and buy Durban's famous bunny-chows. I wanted it to look as if it is a Marvel comic book illustration. I had taken my reference from various Marvel comics. I wanted the colours to stand out and appeal to everyone. I added many small elements to the illustration so that it looks authentic.
Amnesty Campaign items
For the campaign i have created a banner, stickers, t-shirts and badges, which are low cost things that can be produced. The t-shirt designs are simple typography shirts. I enjoy the white t-shirt because it has a cardboard with writing effect on it, which is similar to what homeless people use. For all these elements i have used typography rather than images. My whole campaign is based on "why aren't we all equal?"
Amnesty International Campaign
In this brief we were given the task of creating a real campaign for Amnesty to bring awareness and also help people that are less fortunate and homeless. We had to create a striking campaign that would be easy to understand and straight to the point. For my campaign i decided to build on the cardboard signs that homeless people use. I have used the words that we would call these people and i felt it would communicate better by having a type poster because you would be forced to read it if you see it. I want people to change their attitudes towards people that a homeless because we all are human. Their is information on the posters to help you help them.
